The Top Muslim Women Milestones of the Decade

11. Muslim Women Take on Politics, Everywhere.

While Muslim women aren’t exactly strangers to politics (Pakistan elected a female Prime Minister in the early 90’s), U.S. Congress had never had female Muslim Congresswomen. That is, until this year! For the first time in history, two Muslim women, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, were sworn into office. This was almost immediately followed by the happiest snowball effect, as more and more Muslim women started to run for political office to ensure that our political spheres reflect the reality of the demographic of our home. In fact, just last month, Virginia elected their first-ever Muslim Senator. Keep up that energy in the decade ahead!
