Here’s What You Had to Say About #MuslimWomensDay

3.29.20 By manalmoazzam

And just like that, we have put our 4th annual Muslim Women’s Day behind us! This year, we honed in on autonomy in all its facets, and what the concept of autonomy represents to the many diverse Muslim women who form our wonderful #MuslimGirlArmy.

We were blessed and honored to have a tsunami of vital and perspective-changing conversations and narratives flood our newsfeeds. We got to witness the strength and resilience that Muslim women have to offer as they reclaimed their narratives, and centered their voices on this day designed to celebrate and elevate THEM.

From misconceptions to straight-up misinformation, the hurdles that some Muslim women have to overcome are monumental, so make no mistake, Muslim Women’s Day is an absolutely necessity, and this round-up of tweets proves why. Here are 11 tweets that gave us the feels, and showed the world why Muslim Women’s Day is so important.

1. Are You Listening, World?

With today being #MuslimWomensDay, I need American society to put the idea that "Women of Islam are oppressed" to bed. That type of message was pushed by the offensive rhetoric put out by Islamophobia and Xenophobia.

2. This Is Our Narrative:

Happy #Muslimwomensday Being a Muslim woman means everyone around you has ideas about who you are & what you believe in. I encourage you to speak to a Muslim woman and understand where we come from & OUR beliefs. Not the lies media& false sources like to give. It is OUR narrative pic.twitter.com/13ELMYqkYT

5. YES, YES, YES:

today is #MuslimWomensDay – a much needed day outside of IWD as we are often overlooked in mainstream feminism. no, we are not all oppressed..

we are capable and do wonderful things and today is a day to celebrate that. feminism HAS to be intersectional or it’s just useless 🙋🏽‍♀️
