On Sunday’s Emmy Awards, Rami Malek made history as not only the first Arab-American Emmy winner, but the first person of color to win in the “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama” category — breaking an 18-year streak.
He basically killed two birds with one stone. “Please tell me you are seeing this too,” Malek opened his acceptance speech with an impersonation of his Mr. Robot character.
In case you have been living under a rock, Malek portrays “hacktivist” Elliot Alderson on the critically acclaimed USA Network series “Mr. Robot.”
This show does the unthinkable by challenging sensitive themes of corruption, cyber-security, and mental disorders.
While juggling a handful of mental disorders, Elliot connects with others by hacking into their devices and online accounts. He is then recruited by a man identified as Mr. Robot to join other “hacktivists” known as fsociety.
Their main goal is to sabotage one of the largest corporations in the world, E Corp (or Evil Corp in Elliot’s perspective). This show does the unthinkable by challenging sensitive themes of corruption, cyber-security, and mental disorders. “Mr. Robot” is the first and only series to earn perfectly scored episodes for an entire season, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
