This Is One Way You Can Contribute in Raising Awareness About Women’s Rights

Feeling like you haven’t done enough to save the world by 5 o’clock lately? Tired of the misogyny in the White House, on campus, and yes, even at home? Wishing you could make a contribution in awareness and development to empower women? We’ve got something for you to be a part of if you feel so inclined.

Muslim Girl baddie, Hasnaa Mokhtar, needs your support to raise $3,500. She is a doctoral student in International Development at Clark University researching religio-cultural gender-based violence in Muslim communities – in the United States and Arab Gulf States. She’s recently been accepted to attend the Karamah Law and Leadership Summer Program and needs help raising funds to cover the expenses. We at Muslim Girl support this endeavor, and are hoping you’d like to support it as well.

Her research raises complex questions about the state, institutions, gender relations, family laws, and women’s rights.

Why? Here’s the deal:

Hasnaa aspires to work with Muslim communities to identify effective strategies and programs that are culturally competent and consistent with the Muslim contexts to tackle the problems of violence. Her research raises complex questions about the state, institutions, gender relations, family laws, and women’s rights. But she has been struggling to find answers derived from Islamic knowledge because there are no Muslim professors at her university, and the amount of existing literature can be overwhelming.

“I have been trying to find innovative ways to conduct critical analysis and research through an Islamic lens. This three-week Law and Leadership Summer Program is my chance to do this important work and empower myself so I can pay it forward, inshallah,” she said.

Hasnaa has been a contributing writer with Muslim Girl for almost 2 years. Stories such as, This is What Killing Muslim Women in the Name of God Looks Like, Let’s Talk About the Problem With Masculinity in the Muslim Community, A Muslim Woman’s First Thoughts After the Paris Attacks, and the ‘Nudity’ of Western Feminism were all written by her and provided provocative, in-depth analysis of the issues of Muslim women today. We suggest you visit this link to see all of her published work and then go to her campaign page to support her – because if not now, when? If not her, who?
