Muslim Girl baddie, Hasnaa Mokhtar, needs your support to raise $3,500. She is a doctoral student in International Development at Clark University researching religio-cultural gender-based violence in Muslim communities – in the United States and Arab Gulf States. She’s recently been accepted to attend the Karamah Law and Leadership Summer Program and needs help raising funds to cover the expenses. Hasnaa aspires to work with Muslim communities to identify effective strategies and programs that are culturally competent and consistent with the Muslim contexts to tackle the problems of violence. Her research raises complex questions about the state, institutions, gender relations, family laws, and women’s rights. But she has been struggling to find answers derived from Islamic knowledge because there are no Muslim professors at her university, and the amount of existing literature can be overwhelming.
“I have been trying to find innovative ways to conduct critical analysis and research through an Islamic lens. This three-week Law and Leadership Summer Program is my chance to do this important work and empower myself so I can pay it forward, inshallah,” she said.
