Our founder and editor-in-chief Amani Al-Khatahtbeh will be speaking at the White House on June 14, 2016 alongside Gloria Steinem, Shonda Rhimes, and other women titans to address gender equality in today’s evolving society.
“When I was a little girl, I don’t know what I would have done to see a woman that looked like me, spitting truths I cared about, beside such titanic company,” Amani said in a Facebook post.
Muslim Girl is proud to join First Lady Michelle Obama’s United State of Women. It is a national summit aimed at creating a discourse on the impact of U.S. policies among communities of women across the country. The summit’s 5,000 attendees will be joined by the administration’s top aides, policy advisors, and cabinet members to identify where we go from here.
Amani appears in the White House‘s video message [above] with Oprah Winfrey, Tina Fey, Kerry Washington, and others. On this occasion, we hope to bring the Muslim woman’s narrative to the stage and uplift Islamic feminist thought in a space in which it has otherwise been excluded.
A contingent of Muslim Girl writers and editors will be attending the summit. “I know it is not lost on any one of us the opportunity that we have been given,” Amani says. “I trust no one better to use it wisely.”
