Hasan Minhaj to Host White House Correspondents’ Dinner

It may be a White House Correspondents’ Dinner without the White House, but it won’t be one without a great host. This year’s gala will be hosted by comedian, Daily Show correspondent and Muslim Girl fave, Hasan Minhaj, on April 29.

His job description for that night is what a usual working day for him entails — crafting pointed jokes about the media, the current administration and Trump.

There’s no one better than Hasan Minhaj to host 2017’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner where the subject, Donald Trump, won’t be present.

Remember this video gem from December 2015?

“Donald Trump is an extremist leader who came out of nowhere,” Minhaj said. “He’s self-financed, recruits through social media, attracts his followers with a radical ideology to take over the world, and is actively trying to promote a war between Islam and the West…That’s right, Trevor. Donald Trump is White ISIS. WISIS.”

There’s no one better than Hasan Minhaj to host 2017’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner where the subject, Donald Trump, won’t be present. This makes him the first since Ronald Reagan to skip the annual event.

“It is a tremendous honor to be a part of such a historic event, even though the president has chosen not to attend this year. SAD!” Minhaj said in a statement. “Now more than ever, it is vital that we honor the First Amendment and the freedom of the press.”

Past hosts include Seth Meyers, Jay Leno, Cecily Strong, and Jimmy Kimmel.
