There’s Now An Eid Outfit For American Girl Dolls

Growing up, I saved every single penny I got for chores or good grades, which was about $2 a week, to buy American Girl dolls. They each come with a cultural story, and of course, I identified with none of them. But, as many brown girls know, you kind of go with the one that has dark hair and pretend it’s you the best you can. That isn’t to say I didn’t love my Josephina or my Molly, but girl, the line of new outfits they just dropped — we’re in love.

The Eid outfit is by far the most popular of them all. Who says representation doesn’t matter?

The Eid al-Fitr Celebration Outfit retails at $36. The set comes with a long-sleeved turquoise abaya dress with embroidery on the bodice and sleeves. But not just that, the set also includes a one-piece pink hijab with rhinestones on the front, a pair of blue cotton jersey leggings, and a pair of gold sandals with elastic at the heels.

Additional accessories included are two beaded gold bracelets on elastic and a gold envelope that holds five pretend $1 bills. The set is one in a collection of adorable holiday outfits that also include Diwali, Kwanzaa, and Lunar New Year. However, with a whopping 46 glowing reviews at the time of press, the Eid outfit is by far the most popular of them all. Who says representation doesn’t matter?

The American Girl dolls themselves retail at around $110 each. You can choose a doll that comes with a story, or customize it so that it looks just like the young person in your life.

While Eid al-Fitr isn’t until May, the doll and outfit combo make a great gift for birthdays or special occasions.

PS: American Girl, if you’re reading this, I’m never too old for one of your dolls whenever you have any extras laying around!
