Palestinian Journalists Send Everyone Goodbyes Amid Gaza Genocide

As the atrocities have resumed in Gaza after the humanitarian pause at the end of November, the people of Gaza are losing hope. In the past few days, several Palestinian journalists and prominent social media figures on location in Gaza have posted their final messages or rather, their goodbyes. Journalists such as Ismail Jood, Motaz Azaiza, Ayman Algedi, Bisan Owda, and others have posted on Instagram and other social media platforms stating that they are not sure if they’ll survive this genocide.

Many of these journalists have stated that they will no longer focus on documenting, but rather surviving; that they have shared all they could have. These goodbye messages are heartbreaking, especially given that these are the same individuals who have been our eyes in Gaza since early October.

Their relentless and courageous documentation of what’s been happening to Palestinians amidst this effort of genocide has been able to provide us with information and helped to spread awareness on a digital scale. These journalists are beginning to make decisions to leave Gaza for the sake of the safety of them and/or their loved ones. They’re losing hope in their own survival as well as the future of Gaza.

Here are some goodbye posts from various journalists in Palestine:

2. Motaz Azaiza (@motaz_azaiza)

3. Ayman Algedi (@aymanalgedi12)

English Translation: I’m not sure if I’ll remain alive for much longer in this world, but I hope I have instilled in everyone a good memory that stays in your hearts forever… 💔💔🥺

Palestinians suffering from the barbaric and inhumane actions against them want nothing more than for us to witness their lives, share their stories, keep them in our hopes and prayers, and fight alongside them for their freedom. The work of these beloved journalists will live to be evidence of the horrid that have been cast upon the people of Gaza and are now a part of history. Continue to share their documentation and spread awareness of what’s happening in Palestine. The people of Gaza are losing hope but we must continue to hold hope for them and remember them in this time of atrocity.
