At only 20 years old, Najwa Umran is the founder of Female Muslim Creatives, a non-profit in the greater London area that seeks to support and amplify the voices of Muslim female artists. In 2017, Umran created the hashtag #BlackMuslimahExcellence as a campaign in reaction to the underrepresentation of Black models at Dubai Modest Fashion Week. “Everybody is complaining that the modest fashion industry excludes Black Muslim bloggers so why don’t we support and value our own ourselves?” she asked.
