Modesty Is Not an Excuse: How to Find the Perfect Workout Clothes

It’s hard enough to find fashionable modest clothing to wear on an everyday basis. Let’s just put it out there. There are really not many options that Muslim women have in regards to modest workout attire. Finding workout clothing that is both long and loose and also offers moisture-wicking, breathable, and cooling technologies is difficult.
Lots of companies that offer modest workout wear focus only on the modesty part and forget to engineer the proper fabric that is necessary to perform. So what do women do in this instance?

If these garments are out of your budget, don’t stop yourself from working out. Try to find the best thing you are comfortable in, and get moving!

Some women, like myself, just stick to the clothing that is offered at the stores. During the winter, there are a lot of long sleeve workout shirts that you can stock up on. If you are worried about length, you can pair your outfit with a workout skirt on top of  workout pants. Although there are not many options, there are some brands that carry proper workout clothing that is modest.
For example, Verona Collection has affordable, breathable workout tops in many colors. There is also a new, up-and-coming company that offers properly designed fitness attire called Veil.

They have a climate-adapting hijab that repels water, which is actually pretty awesome. Additionally, they have modest tops designed specially for those sweaty workouts. If these garments are out of your budget, don’t stop yourself from working out. Try to find the best thing you are comfortable in, and get moving!
Aside from clothing, some women have a hard time working out in mixed gyms. I go to a mixed gym, but try to go during non-peak hours to squeeze in my workout. If you are uncomfortable working out in front of men, there are some facilities that are only for women like Lady of America.

Some gyms also offer special rooms for women only. If you don’t have access to any of these places, you can always invest in your own workout equipment, or find at-home fitness DVDs to work with. A great program to consider if you are doing the at-home route is 21 day fix. It’s a 21-day program with 30-minute high intense workouts and a meal plan. It helps build muscle, and is great for anyone who has a busy schedule, or does not want to go to the gym.
Never let modesty stop you from being active. Remember, there is no right way to be fit. Everyone has their own idea of modesty, and you only limit yourself from what you can do. There are always solutions to our problems, we just have to look for them.
