Let’s Talk Superfoods! Top 5 Picks and How to Choose Yours

Our bodies are a gift from Allah (SWT), and we are responsible for taking care of this Amanah, we have a duty to protect and nourish our bodies with the nutrients they need to function at their best. “Superfoods” is a common term in health discussions, characterized by nutrient density, antioxidants, omega-3s, and potential health benefits.

I used to view food as simply a means of fueling my body, but my perspective shifted when I realized its impact on my overall well-being. Some foods left me with mind fog and headaches, while others energized me.

Each person has their own set of superfoods based on genes, beliefs, and preferences. This article aims to inspire your self-discovery journey to find superfoods aligning with your body’s needs.

People swear by certain foods, this is because they observe noticeable changes in their bodies. However, what proves beneficial for one person may lead to intolerance, allergies, or inflammation in another.

An often overlooked aspect, which I fervently believe deserves emphasis, is how the preparation method of our food plays a pivotal role in determining the amount of nutrients we extract from a specific meal. 5 Superfoods That I Love as an MG Writer

It’s important to note that I haven’t provided an exhaustive list of health benefits, as certain foods may contribute to different aspects of your overall health. I am simply sharing what has proven effective for me, acknowledging that these foods may have additional health benefits beyond my personal experience.

1. Probiotic yogurt

Probiotic yogurt is my morning go-to because it’s easier on my stomach than regular milk, and beneficial for anyone dealing with lactose intolerance. Plus, it does wonders for keeping your gut healthy and assisting in absorbing vitamins and minerals.

💡 For a quick, power-packed breakfast, I blend it with chia seeds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds, and a sprinkle of buckwheat. For the exact amounts, I use a tablespoon for the seeds and a handful of nuts.

2. Avocado

Avocados are my secret to feeling satiated. They’re packed with healthy fats making me feel fuller for longer and reducing my temptation to snack on less nutritious options throughout the day. At the same time, I have noticed improved skin and hair health leaving me with a radiant complexion and smoother hair texture.

💡 I love adding avocados to salads, smoothies, and tacos, and they’re a perfect side to my morning omelet.

3. Salmon

Salmon is my go-to fish, for the amazing omega-3 boost it gives. It enhances my thinking, focus, and memory and on top of that, I feel energized.

💡 My signature dish is a salmon wellington, both delightful and nutritious.

4. Moong bean

Moong beans are a little powerhouse rich in fiber, and I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my digestive system. Bloating is reduced, and I feel more comfortable and lighter even after indulging.

💡 My favorite way to enjoy them is in a curry. Sublime is all I will say.

5. Courgettes

A nutrient-dense vegetable that gives me a boost and contains the lowest amount of calories. Courgettes are probably the only vegetable that transitions between being both my favorite side and the main dish.

💡 A perfect way to enjoy its flavors as a main dish is in a curry or a ratatouille.

These are my personal recommendations that I’ve found to be nourishing my well-being as I try to stay productive throughout my days!
