Anniesa Hasibuan Makes History at NYFW, Featuring All Headscarf-Clad Models

29-year-old Anniesa Hasibuan made history at New York Fashion Week Sept. 12 as the first ever hijabi designer featured at NYFW, and the first ever designer to have all her models wear headscarves on the runway.
Her collection, D’Jakarta, featured a variety of soft pastels, earthy tones, and gold, interesting textures, and unique ensembles put together for the ideal Spring/ Summer collection. All the models wore luminous silk hijabs that completed the looks and brought even more meaning to the collection.

The Indonesian designer brought together the perfect elements of her cultural home country and the metropolitan western fashion world to create a beautiful harmony of fashion and modesty, because, yes — they don’t have to clash.

All the models wore luminous silk hijabs that completed the looks and brought even more meaning to the collection.

Her beautiful collection and remarkable runway show drew a huge crowd with a full house — and people eager to get a glimpse of the magical collection. She even got a standing ovation at the end of her show from critics and fashionistas alike.
The collection was truly one of a kind and we look forward to seeing more of her inspiring collections and unique designs in the future as she continues to make history and take over the fashion world.
She has also previously showed her designs at the Westfield Festival in London back in 2015 and was involved in New York’s Couture Fashion Week twice and won Best Fashion Designer there in early 2015.
