You Can Thank This Muslim Immigrant Couple for the COVID-19 Vaccine

BioNTech and Pfizer announced that a vaccine for the coronavirus has has been found to be more than 90% effective in its recently concluded large-scale trial. The two scientists who developed this vaccine are Turkish-born Muslims named Dr. Ugur Sahin and his wife, Dr. Ozlem Tureci.

Born in Turkey and raised in Germany, Sahin belongs to an immigrant family that worked in a Ford factory. He became a physician with a specialization in immunotherapy. His wife, Oezlem Tuereci, 53, is a board member of BioNTech, a company owned by her husband. She is the daughter of a Turkish physician who also migrated to Germany.

Their contribution to the COVID-19 vaccine will help millions who suffer from the pandemic. The vaccine will also enable people to recover, and countries to revive their economies.

In a world where anti-Muslim sentiment continues to rise, this is a remarkable and notable accomplishment, as it is Muslim scientists who are at the forefront of coming up with a solution for this virus.
