In 2016, Muslim Girl teamed up with Teen Vogue to bring you authentic, fearless, and unapologetic voices on what life is like as a Muslim girl in today’s society.
We are now excited to announce that our “Ask a Muslim Girl” video series has been nominated for a this year’s 21st annual 2017 People’s Choice Webby Award!
The Webby Awards are an industry standard spotlighting the best of digital media. The nomination for a series based on dispelling myths around Muslim women is recognition that our narrative is being heard by people all over the world.
Our goal was to answer the usual questions that non-Muslims have about Muslim women for Teen Vogue’s audience. The outcome was an amazing and very popular video feature, which gained popularity because of the raw, honest and badass commentaries that Teen Vogue let us make about everything from hijab, dating, Donald Trump, growing up Muslim in America and facts on Islam from our very own #MuslimGirlArmy members.
The nomination for a series based on dispelling myths around Muslim women is recognition that our narrative is being heard by people all over the world.
When Teen Vogue and Muslim Girl teamed up for this project, we thought it would be serving as a tool to dispel stereotypes. What we got in return was positive feedback and requests to talk back more about who we are as women of faith.
