Since Donald Trump’s inauguration, the western world has been more conflicted than ever over the leader of one of the most powerful countries in the world: America. With proven misogynistic views, controversial behaviour and a relentlessly inappropriate use of social media, many feel the election of Trump was a clear display of American bigotry still persistent among the electoral populace. With majority White American support, Trump has implemented the prejudicial Muslim Travel Ban, insisted on building a wall to keep out immigrants, aligned himself on social media with white supremacists and also supported Roy Moore, a candidate running for the Alabama State Senate, who spoke in favour of slavery.
A lot of people believe the fundamental disagreement between Trump supporters and non-supporters can be solved through discourse, that we can all come to a common understanding and start to see the others points of view — but can we?
