The villages of Kashmir up north that we visited next were in an even direr situation — utterly destroyed by the recent floods that left millions homeless and without pure drinking water. IMRC had provided emergency relief, but now they only had tents or thatched huts to survive with winter not far. The families here toiled all day long, making the most expensive carpets in the world but being paid less than 10 dollars a day, even after years of work.
