Can we all agree that 2015 has been a pretty badass year for Muslim women everywhere? We’ve been killing it. Don’t believe us? Let’s have a look back at some of the most powerful and groundbreaking moments in 2015 for American-Muslim women.
Back in February, our Baddie of the Month Samantha Iman, a hijab-wearing Muslim woman, won the lawsuit she put up against Abercrombie & Fitch for not hiring her on the basis of her religion. In a historic Supreme Court case. Hell yeah.
From hate crimes to police brutality, Linda Sarsour has been a consistent and reverberating voice for civil rights everywhere from start to end in 2015. She’s been a powerful representative on behalf of the Muslim community in the Chapel Hill shooting, March for Justice, and beyond.
Later on in the summer this year, Faatimah Knight founded project: “Respond With Love: Rebuild Black Churches, Support Victims of Arson Across The South,” which raised over $41,000 to rebuild black churches during the month of Ramadan. That’s the kind of unity we’re talking about!
Then in October, the bold Remaz Abdelgader took on the stage during a Bernie Sander’s rally and powerfully asked the candidate how he plans to end racism and discrimination within the United States — her message went viral.
