Texas Mosque Destroyed in Fire Just After Trump’s Muslim Ban

Not even a day after Trump signed the Muslim ban, a mosque in Victoria, T.X., was set on fire.

Victoria Advocate reports that a 7-11 clerk, Paul Hulbert, called 911 to report smoke and fire coming from a nearby mosque early this morning at 2 A.M. The fire took four hours to extinguish. No injuries have been reported.

President of the mosque, Shahid Hashmi, told Victoria Advocate that around 100 people are a part of the community — and they have invited people of all faiths to join in a prayer service today.

Members of the congregation stood on the sidewalk as they watched the firefighters work to tame the flames. When the time for morning prayer came, the members prayed on the sidewalk.

Business Insider reports, “Victoria Fire Marshal Tom Legler has asked for help from state and federal fire investigators to determine what caused the blaze.” At this time, he has no theories as to what caused it. However, earlier this month, the mosque was burglarized.
