This Teacher’s Social Experiment Makes You Rethink Gender Equality in Congress

You never know what it’s like to be in a person’s situation until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
That is exactly what this New Jersey high school teacher Nicholas Ferroni did to his students at Union High School.
80% of Congress is comprised of male leaders, and this high school teacher turned the tables around on his male students — forcing them to experience what it is like for a female congresswoman in the workforce.
To do this, Ferroni arranged a focus group with his students and conducted a poll of new policies that should be changed in the school. The suggested policies are altered to be in favor of the female students.
When Ferroni asked his students if all girls should get a 21 percent discount on all school related items, 25 of his female students were in favor of it and five of his male students were against it.

To do this, Ferroni arranged a focus group with his students and conducted a poll of new policies that should be changed in the school. The suggested policies are altered to be in favor of the female students.

Ferroni continues the social experiment by suggesting that girls should get a two-minute head start to their next class before the boys.
In this scenario, 24 girls were in favor of it and six boys were against it. In the end, Ferroni broke through to his students — specifically one high school football player — after he responded, saying, “Women shouldn’t feel how I felt — it’s kind of unfair. There were only six of us guys against 20-something girls. I felt kind of unmatched.”
Ferroni was later announced as America’s “Sexiest Teacher Alive” by People magazine.
His teaching styles are unique. He promised himself that if he ever became a teacher, he would conduct social experiments in his classroom, because he believes it is the most effective tool to teach young students.

‘Women shouldn’t feel how I felt — it’s kind of unfair. There were only six of us guys against 20-something girls. I felt kind of unmatched.’

In an interview on “The View,” he reveals the the infamous experiment “Brown Eyes Blue Eyes” influenced his approach to how he educated his students.

Talk show host Whoopie Goldberg commended his teaching tactics and informed him that he teachers like him make her worry less for the future generations.
All those hosts went on to mutually agree that Ferroni is actively becoming a part of the solution through his students.
