By A White man who yelled racial slurs at an off-duty Muslim female NYPD police officer and allegedly assaulted her son was arrested on Sunday.
While Officer Aml Elsokary, who wears hijab, attempted to drop off her 16-year-old son in Bay Ridge, two white men in their 30s began to harass them. According to reports, one man shoved Officer Elsokary’s son as he yelled out, “I will cut your throat! Go back to your country!”
Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted the following in support of Officer Alsokary:
“Aml Elsokary is one of 900 Muslim-Americans in @NYPDnews who protect us. Let’s stand with her family. Call 311 with any info. #NotInOurCity.”
Police arrested Christopher Nelson, 36, who is being charged with aggravated harassment. The case is being treated as a hate crime.
Officer Elsokary is hailed as a hero in her community as she saved a baby girl and man in a burning building in 2014.
We pray that Officer Elsokary and her son find justice from this incident. No information has been released yet in regards to the second White male involved in the hate crime.
