A Muslim’s Answer: How I Feel About Daesh Following My Religion

“How do you feel when radical groups as Daesh follow the same religion as you?” is a relatively common question that has been posed to Muslims worldwide regardless of its accuracy. The questioners do not think twice about whether there is any truth behind what they are asking, despite of what the Muslim’s response will be.

It is unignorably significant to realize that the question itself is incorrect and misleading because Islam, if you did not know already, does not support the slaughter of innocent lives.

Islam does not prescribe unnecessary harm to others, even those of dissimilar religions, in the name of Allah. So regardless of what a Muslim’s answer is to how they feel about Daesh following their religion, please correct the inquirer, for Islam does not allow unreasonable killings! Linking Islam with violence is undoubtedly one of the most grave mistakes leaders, the media and its consumers have made.

Islam does not prescribe unnecessary harm to others, even those of dissimilar religions, in the name of Allah.

Islam is a religion that is based off of the Quran, and the Qur’an says:

Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors. (Quran 5:32)

Look at the two verses after:

Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment, (Quran 5:33)

Except for those who return [repenting] before you apprehend them. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (Quran 5:34)

This same month saw an increase in violence from militant groups such as Daesh, flagging the deep and consistent conflict between what Islam prescribes and the path that the proclaimed Muslims who are a part of these organizations follow.

So how is that groups like Daesh can claim to be Muslims and the general public easily believes they are accurately representing Islam? They are not! They never were; they never will!

Perhaps the greatest hint came this past Ramadan, a holy month for Muslims during which violence of any kind is disallowed. However, this same month saw an increase in violence from militant groups such as Daesh, flagging the deep and consistent conflict between what Islam prescribes and the path that the proclaimed Muslims who are a part of these organizations follow.

Hence, the question concerning a Muslim’s views on Daesh following their religion is insanely flawed to begin with. Just a little read of the Quran and some thinking can prevent you from asking such ignorant questions.
