Before skin care routines were a thing, mine was basically Nivea cream and good old Vaseline. Those days are long gone. Now everyone has a skin care routine, carefully crafted ten step regimens composed of clay masks and rosewater sprays, hydrating moisturizers and jojoba face oil.
Love it or hate it, the craze has changed the way we shop for cosmetics – and in one case, became the subject of a pretty viral article.
There are literally thousands of products out there. (Overwhelming much?) Having said that, I figured the best way for me to narrow down some good routines is to just ask some women. So, I reached out to the #MuslimGirlClique to see what their skin care routines were and how they got their skin glowing and their noor flowing.

I tend to go for the coconut oil on my face twice a week for hydration, as well as a face mask on a week for relaxation and care. For the last eight months or so, I’ve totally ditched makeup out of my life entirely because I felt it was ruining my skin. I use moisturizer every morning, as well as under eye cream. This simple routine has been doing miracles for my skin.

I’ve been really into charcoal peel off face masks lately, and charcoal face wash. I use nose strips for blackheads. At night I go to sleep with a light mud mask, don’t know what it’s called but it’s not like an ACTUAL mud mask, (that wouldn’t be fun to sleep in.) It seeps into your skin at night. In the mornings I’ve replaced my foundation with just a good moisturizer to let my skin breathe.

I’m all about rubbing coconut oil on my body and face a few times a week for hydration. When I’m really oily I’ll use some sort of clay mask. Also hydrogen peroxide spot treatment on acne works wonders.

I’ve been using No. 7 on my skin twice a day for a while now. I put it on before my makeup in the morning and then a little over my makeup because I have super dry skin. In the evening before bed, I wash my face with Dove soap before reapplying the No. 7.
Occasionally when I find free time (from aging) I’ll buy some cheap masks from the drug store that have collagen in them to give my skin a boost of life. I just found one that lifts your chin (double chin, that is) so I’ll be trying that out this weekend. My New Years resolution was to drink more water because our skin really needs the hydration as we get older. While I haven’t been meeting my goal of 8 cups a day, I’m working on it. Lastly, it doesn’t hurt to surround yourself with young and beautiful friends who motivate you to stay your best. Pass the water, please.

I use Neutrogena pink grapefruit face wash and love my Clarisonic Mia 1. I then apply Thayers witch hazel toner and then the First Aid beauty moisturizer. I finish off with a spray of Mario Badescu’s rose water spay. For masks, I’m a big fan of the Indian healing clay masks!
6) Safaa (Social Media Editor)
I have super dry skin so my night routine is typically a seven step process.
1) Wash my face with Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Cleanser
2) Use Lush Ocean Salt as a scrub for my face (not every night though)
3) Don’t forget the Mario Badescu Aloe Spray
4) Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum (I sometimes substitute this with Argan Oil)
5) Belif Hydrating Bomb Moisturizer
6) Mario Badescu Chamomile Eye Cream
7) BITE Beauty Agave Lip Mask
Some nights I’ll use a hydrating mask by either Peter Thomas Roth, Lush, or a sheet mask I get in my Ipsy bag.

I use rosewater to spray on my face. You can find it at any ethnic store and some big markets as well. I got mine from Istanbul, and I’m a bit concerned when I finally run out of it as I’m afraid that others I find in the market won’t be as good. I love, love, love Tea Tree Mist from Lush. Try it. I think you will love it, too. I also use Shea-Butter which is a natural butter from Africa. I apply it to my lips and my eyelids. And for that daytime and nighttime moisturizer, I use chia seed oil. If you haven’t tried this yet, do it soon! It’s a brilliant hydration substitution for your skin. Lastly, Herbalism by Lush is my favorite face wash, which doesn’t strip my skin of natural oils. At first you will feel a bit weird by how your face feels because it doesn’t leave your face feeling squeeky clean like typical face wash – but we need to keep our natural oils.

Hey, it’s me! I haven’t really perfected mine yet and don’t plan on it any time soon (because, you know – school, social life, family, etc…). However, as of right now my routine basically consists of two masks which I alternate: Lush Mask of Magnaminty and Origins Rose Clay Mask.
I also love Origins GinZing Gel Moisturizer. It makes my skin feel super fresh. Sometimes I spray on Glossier’s Soothing Face Mist. And no matter what, I always always wear sunscreen! (It’s not only for sunny days, people!) And if I’m going to be honest, I’m still team Nivea cream and Vaseline. Old habits die hard.
We don’t care how old you are, it’s never too soon or too late to take care of your skin. Hopefully, our #MuslimGirlClique gave you some ideas on how to get your glow on – keep shining, ladies!
