Linda Sarsour Is Fundraising for Ohio Hate Victim Rahma Warsame

Co-Chair of the Women’s March on Washington and all around social activist Linda Sarsour has jump started a fundraising page for assault victim Rahma Warsame, 40, from Columbus, Ohio.

Just shy of 4,000 supporters, the project is already 101 percent funded and has raised $110,634, surpassing Sarsour’s original goal of $110,000. The campaign still has 15 days left.

According to Muslim Girl’s previous reportings on the assault, Warsame, a Somali American, was beaten by a Caucasian male in Columbus, Ohio when coming to another Muslim woman’s defense. She developed a host of injuries after the attack: lost teeth, swollen face and nose and severely damaged lips.

“Witnesses claimed the suspect, who has reportedly made racist comments to neighbors in the past, was questioned by police but released without any charges,” Muslim Girl writer Nihal Mubarak additionally reported.

While she is staying at Riverside Methodist Hospital, which also happens to be her place of employment, the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is dealing with the legal matters and hopes to take the case to court as a hate crime.

Warsame is also a single mother to a 12-year-old boy, according to Sarsour’s page.

“Her son is traumatized and staying with his relatives; he is preparing to start middle school in the fall,” the page states. “Understandably, sister Rahma will not be able to return to work for a few weeks so we would like to alleviate any financial stresses for her.”
