“With liberty and justice for all.”
Have you heard of that expression? Yeah, it’s an authentically American thing. It’s also an American thing to say one thing, but act differently.
On Sunday, an American-Iranian journalist named Marzieh Hashemi, 59, was arrested at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and taken to Washington D.C. by the F.B.I., reports Aljazeera. She was traveling to visit her family. Ms. Hashemi works for Iran’s English language new outlet, PressTV.
Insiders have told Muslim Girl that at the detention facility, Marzieh was forced to remove her hijab, and with full knowledge that Muslims don’t consume pork, pork is all she was given.
The story gets even more messed up due to the fact that there are no real charges against her. Insiders have told Muslim Girl that at the detention facility, Marzieh was forced to remove her hijab, and with full knowledge that Muslims don’t consume pork, pork is all she was given. As a result, the grandmother of 3 has been surviving on crackers.
It seems obvious that America is taking its animosity towards Iran and Muslims to a whole new level. Bahram Qasemi, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman has said, “We condemn the illegal arrest of Marzieh Hashemi, the reporter, and presenter of PressTV, and the inhumane treatment of her in jail in Washington.”
Trump’s government has been pressuring Iran by re-establishing sanctions, accusing Iran of destabilizing the Middle East. This is despite the fact that interference in the affairs of oil-rich nations generally seem to trace back to America.
It seems that Marzieh Hashemi has become an innocent victim in a war between governments.
Right now, John Bolton, perhaps the most reckless National Security Advisor the United States has ever seen, has been trying to convince the U.S. government that a war with Iran may be necessary. Nothing about that decision would be a good idea. If America gets into a war with Iran, it’ll be too big of a mess to ever clean up. Iran has already been damaged too much, and America already owns too much of that damage. How much longer do we, the Iranian people, have to suffer through the selfish and foolish acts of politicians?
Vali Nasr, an Iranian-American author specializing in Middle East and Islamic Studies and Dean of Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies tweeted, “Bolton is pushing for war with Iran, Trump is threatening to devastate Turkey’s economy, Pompeo is telling Middle East all problems are Obama’s fault. What is clear: US is losing credibility and only assurance it is giving the region is that it is now a force for instability.”
It seems that Marzieh Hashemi has become an innocent victim in a war between governments. What I know for sure, however, is that the citizens of warring governments should NEVER be used as bargaining chips. This shameless act defies all that the U.S. is supposed to stand for, and we demand that sister Marzieh be released immediately! #FreeMarziehHashemi
Please do your part: The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) is urging one and all to write to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to request their immediate intervention in this case.
