By What message would you like to give to the Muslim American Community as the new executive director?
Now is the time for us to mobilize and push back on all the policies of the U.S. government that have so drastically affected our community. Many Muslim Americans believe that the justice system is functioning and that the only thing our community needs to do is to assimilate and prove our loyalty to the United States.
But if the last 14 years have taught us anything, it is that scores of innocent Muslim Americans have become victims of the state in spite of any and all measures to play a positive role as citizens.
Our goal must be to focus on gaining back our rights through the state, while recognizing that the state offers only a partial solution; indeed our community must focus on building locally and working with other marginalized communities in order to realize normative justice.
