What can the everyday Muslim Americans do to advocate their rights?
All Muslim Americans should absolutely participate in know-your-rights trainings so that they are aware of what to do in cases of potential rights violations. These trainings are held frequently in many cities and states across the country and interested individuals should contact the National Lawyers Guild for more information.
On the other side of this piece, is exercising caution when attending meetings with law enforcement at Mosques, religious centers, etc., as these spaces often exist to gather information about attendees under the guise of offering protective services for the community.
I also encourage Muslim Americans to become aware of key organizations that advocate for some of the issues that Muslim Americans have frequently faced, such as free speech and freedom of religion.
