The Banner of Peace

These are tough times.  Our values, outlooks, beliefs, lifestyle, and even our clothing are being attacked and ridiculed.  Each headline in the news, from about a mass murderer to a taxi driver, is being innacurately blamed on Islam, rather than a faulty human being.  There is no doubt that these are tough times for Muslims…

Etiquettes of Prayer

Salah is incumbent upon us and contains certain guidelines without which it becomes invalid. I have outlined some of the common mistakes you might be making in your prayer and hope that you will find it useful as a reminder in your quest to become a better Muslim:

My Hijab is for You, Too

Why do you wear the hijab? Muslims and non-Muslims alike have asked me the same question countless times.  While it is true that Islam, in addition to the spiritual enlightenment, has preferred women to wear the hijab for their safety and modesty, there are additional important reasons worth mentioning. I wear the garment for a…

To Eat the Flesh of His Dead Brother

Sitting with my mother on the sofa with a remote control in my hand, I had the honor of watching an incredibly powerful and deeply moving lecture. This opinion might not be shared by everyone, but my life changed within the thirty minutes of the scholar speaking about two of the Major Sins which we…

Remarkable Hadith Qudsi

Whoever returns to Me, I accept him no matter how far he is, and whoever turns away from Me, I approach him and call on him. Whoever leaves a sin for my sake, I reward him with many gifts, and whoever seeks to please Me, I seek to please him. Whoever acknowledges My Will and…

Something to Remember

This post was contributed to Flashy Friday by user hira786. I woke up suddenly one night, and saw a strange light in my room…. The problem is that the lights are off. I saw the clock, it was 3:30 in the morning. Okay… so where is all this light coming from? ———- I turned around…

Losing Weight Through Islam

The Qur’an is truly the perfect book. Not only is it written so beautifully that it’s incomparable by any other book of religion, but it also has… weight loss tips? Didn’t see that coming, did you? :heh: It seems unfair how easy it is to gain weight and how hard it is to lose it….

Response to a Christian Sister

This morning, I awoke to quite a few emails from MuslimGirl.net readers, especially concerning the hijab. I’ve decided to respond to the following email I received because, well, it was the least harsh, and it contains a number of assumptions Americans have of the hijab. The name and email of the sender are hidden out…

Faith to Go

The iPod touch and iPhone are no longer just about music and movies (or the deafness and squinted eyes they undoubtedly cause with prolonged use). A slew of Islamic applications available at the iTunes App Store now give every Muslim with an Apple product in their pockets the chance to make their faith even more…

Life in Fast Forward…

I thought about writing this article as I was making myself tea. I was thinking about how fast time goes by. I was reminiscing of a time sitting with my friends.  I could hear the laughter like it was yesterday, the conversation like it was today. That memory is not because of how good of…

Who are Muslim Americans?

While almost anyone can spout off sensational views on what they think of Islam and its adherents, it’s rarer to find true in-depth and impartial analysis on exactly who represents Islam, i.e. the average Muslim, especially in the United States. However, the Muslim West Facts Project, a partnership between the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies and the Coexist Foundation, does exactly this in its recent report titled “Muslim Americans: A National Portrait”, which surveyed approximately 300,000 people and highlights Muslim American ethnic, economic, and political diversity, giving real insight on exactly what the modern Muslim-American, including the youth, is really like.

How I Beat Acne

I don’t have the best of skin. In fact, I have the average teenage girl’s skin – somewhat oily, prone to breakouts, and always cursed with a new pimple popping up right before a day when you NEED a clear face. That’s a double whammy when teamed up with my sensitive skin. The first time…

True Friendship

From Qisas.com A person came crying and weeping to Shaikh Shiblee and said, ‘O Shaikh, I have destroyed myself; make supplication for me that may Allah (SWT) take me away from this world.’ People whose relationship with Allah (SWT) is strong will never ever dream of committing suicide. Those people who enjoy the pleasures of…
