Bored in Quarantine? Kill Time With These 7 Free Online Activities

As the world goes under quarantine, we need a little more to keep ourselves engaged and stimulated than overindulging in a news cycle that likes to hound us with information 24/7. Sure, you could always hit up websites like Coursera and Alison to take some courses here and there, but what if I told you you could learn a new skill for free?

That’s right, fam! We have rounded up 7 FREE indoor activities to help you hone skills you just haven’t had time for before:

1. Brit + Co. Is Offering All of Their Courses Free-of-Charge

That’s right! Now, this offer will only last until the end of March 2020, but that still gives you plenty of time to scurry over to their website and take advantage of their massive course catalogue. So what are you even waiting for? Head on over to Brit + Co. to take advantage of this sweet deal!

2. Byrdie Has You Covered for All Your Beauty Needs

For the past few days, Byrdie has been sharing free beauty school videos on their Instagram page, so if you feel the need to brush up on some New York Fashion Week-level makeup skills, you know where to go! I know their eyeliner tutorial has my name ALL over it. 3. Milk Street is offering a few of their cooking classes for free too.

3. Learn to Cook Like a Pro — Without the Pro Price Tag

Under normal circumstances, I run from the kitchen at every opportunity, but free cooking classes are too great a temptation, even for me! Since all of us will be spending a lot more time in close proximity of our kitchens, Milk Street has been kind enough to make their ENTIRE catalogue of online cooking classes free-of-charge all the way through April 30, 2020. If this isn’t the ideal chance to perfect those culinary skills, I don’t know what is!

4. This One’s for the Academics

If you really miss being in an academic environment, here are some free courses you can take to stimulate that brain! There are a wide variety of seminars and classes available for free from storied institutions such as MIT, Boston University, McGill, and the Australian National University. If you’ve ever been curious about a random subject, such as The Great Unsolved Mysteries of the Universe, Energy Within Environmental Constraints, or Becoming an Entrepreneur, this is the website for you. It’s hard for me to express how varied the options are, so I recommend checking the website out for yourself!

5. Read Your Way Through Scribd’s Entire Digital Bookshelf

A few days ago, the CEO of Scribd wrote an open letter declaring that their entire catalogue would be free for 30 days! Whilst a free 30-day subscription is Scribd’s usual M.O, in this situation, there is no credit card or commitment required. Time to read ALL the books!

6. Google’s Takes You to Your Favorite Museums

Head on over to Google Arts and Culture to take virtual tours of literally hundreds of exhibits at the museums around the globe that you’ve been dying to check out, but never had the time for!

7. YouTube Is Your Friend

Last, but certainly not least, you can always turn to Professor YouTube for thousands of free videos on the next skill you want to hone! Be it meditation, or floor exercises to keep fit, or even the art of arranging flowers, odds are, YouTube has your back!
