By This year is a massive one for MuslimGirl.com. We are celebrating a decade, a whole ten years, of reclaiming our narratives from being filtered through sources that exclude the very individuals they seek to understand.
Launched from the bedroom of a teenager on a mission, MuslimGirl.com has grown rapidly to become the largest English language platform for Muslim women seeking to express their own narratives. This has become a safe space, a haven for those who feel disenfranchised because it seems as though there is no place for their realities. And so, our platform and social media presence became a defiant tool through which we talked back to the issues facing Muslim women on a daily basis. We are here, and have always been at the ready, to elevate the authentic and diverse narratives of our Muslimah sisters.
From our website, to our Instagram account, to our YouTube channel, we have spent the past 10 years tackling those those pesky Islamophobes who seek to demoralize us, as well as those who seek to dictate our realities. So, for your viewing pleasure, we have curated a list of our most viral videos from a decade of talking back. 1. Let’s Help Pam Geller Draw Muhammad
When noted Islamophobe announced her intention to host a “Draw Muhammad” in a petty attempt to rile us up, MuslimGirl.com made a pledge to replace the hate with love and ask people we approached in public spaces to draw a Muhammad they knew. The results were heartwarming.
2. MUSLIMGIRL: THE COME-UP
Dedicated to letting everyone know what this platform was all about, our editor-in-chief, Amani Al-Khatahtbeh lays it all out there in this video summarizing what it means to be a part of this platform, in our first ever crowdfunding campaign.
3. Muslim Girl: A Coming of Age’s Book Trailer
MG’s editor-in-chief, Amani Al-Khatahtbeh, announced her debut book that went on to become a New York Times bestseller with this well-received mini-movie.
4. 100 Years of Hijab Fashion (MENA/Asia)
In an effort to portray the evolution of the hijab within Asia and the MENA region over the course of a century, MuslimGirl.com produced this video highlighting the diversity within our ummah.
5. 100 Years of Hijab Fashion (Africa Part 1)
A follow-up to our popular 1-minute hijab evolution series zero-ed in on African hijab fashion over the course of a century. A true testament to the diversity on display through the ages, it didn’t take long for this video to catch the attention of our viewers.
6. Muslim Olympian Reports Stuff for Trump
You are not going to want to miss this side-splitting take on Ibtihaj Muhammad reporting back to Donald Trump on what Muslims get up to in the United States of America.
7. #HALALPAINT IS HERE
Take a look back at when MuslimGirl.com teamed up with ORLY to bring you baddies #HalalPaint, a limited edition series of water-permeable nail polishes.
8. PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OR KKK?
In this epically fun and eye-roll inducing throwback, MuslimGirl.com presented a series of quotes and asked a number of people whether those quotes were uttered by a current presidential candidate, or the KKK. You KNOW this one won’t disappoint!
