Basically Basic and Ain’t Nothing Wrong With That

Real talk: as life gets exceedingly hectic, looking cute and staying on trend isn’t exactly at the top of our list of priorities. That being said, I think we can all wholeheartedly appreciate this so called Basic trend that’s been on the rise. It’s really simple if I do say so myself: neutral color palettes, timeless statement pieces, clean & simple silhouettes, and your most comfy pairs of shoes. I think it’s safe to say that this trend is not only simple and cute, but actually practical!
To quote Leonardo Da Vinci:

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”

1. Color Palette

Stick to simple and neutral hues that will be easy to consistently mix and match. Throw a little juxtaposition of colors in there with both dark and light colors. These colors include: beige, camel, white, black, grey, light pink, chambray blue etc.

2. Stick With What You Know

You can literally never go wrong with black on black on black. This is probably the quickest outfit I’ve ever put together and it’s simple, yet effortless. Remember, a cute pair of heels will always change the look of your outfit taking it from casual basic to classy basic. It’s a big difference, I promise.

 3. Shape and Cut

Keep an eye out for clean silhouettes. The silhouette is enough to literally make the outfit. For example, the cut of the slit dress/shirt is the focal point of the outfit, nothing more is needed to dress up the outfit so let the features of the garment speak for themselves.

4. Comfy Shoes

I’m talking sneakers, loafers, or sandals. These are shoes that seriously add the perfect, casual touch to your basic look. Birkenstock, Vans, Converse, or even Nike running shoes are all comfortable and easy to rock. And remember, you don’t actually have to go out and buy these brand name shoes! Find retailers like H&M and Forever 21 that do similar shoe styles.

That being said, I think it’s important to remember being fashion forward doesn’t always mean rocking trendy one-time wear pieces or constantly buying new clothes. It involves getting inspired, being comfortable, and cultivating a style that works well for YOU!
