With brands like LUSH on the rise in the natural cosmetics and skincare industry, I was intrigued about this new company, Asal, that claims to be absolutely organic in all of their products.
According to the company, Asal — the Farsi word for honey — is “rooted in the belief that nature is our best ingredient when needing to nourish or heal ourselves. Our goal is to help others realise the beauty of nature through our products, made 100% naturally, without any added chemicals or artificial substances.” They remind us that our world is growing more and more dependent on chemically-enhanced everything, and that their goal is to bring it back to the root.
And that really says something for Muslims — as we know, the Qur’an states,
“Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you].” There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.”
– The Holy Quran (16:69)
Many products claim to be a scrub but they aren’t as coarse or they’re too coarse and damage your skin, and after two weeks of trying the product, every wash left my skin soft and scrubbed away dead skin and oils. I was less oily on my face in the day after using it. Because of the raw honey, it helped to lift any impurities on my skin helped to remove any make-up residue after a long day. Gentle enough to use everyday or once – twice a week.
The point of a body wash is to remove dead skin cells and remove any uncleanness from one’s body, this is the first body wash that I’ve actually felt clean after using it. You must think I’m weird for saying that but all of the body washes I’ve used in my lifetime, they’ve always left my body a little soapy or even just a silky residue on my skin after using it. But this body wash removes all the dirt, dead skin, sweat and oil from your body. It left my body feeling soft and smelling great!
Surma/Khol has been used for generations in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East to darken the eyes for cosmetic purposes. Asal’s surma is made purely from almonds! I applied it on top of my lid after wetting it, the application was very dark and smoothly. It’s perfect as a dry or wet surma liner and whatever suits your fancy. Here is a picture of my application on my eye with this surma:
Using an angled brush, it was applied as an eyeliner and achieved the same results as a mainstream cosmetic brand. The color is rich and dark and you can change the consistency of the eyeliner at your will.
