Here’s Why Exercise Is the Best Thing You Can Do for Yourself Today

I had a health scare earlier this year. I was abruptly but very swiftly taken down by a fever of 105F for a couple of months, and in spite of fifty blood tests and innumerable doctors visits, the doctors just couldn’t figure out what was wrong. They still haven’t been able to. Amidst throwing out scary maladies like lupus and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the illness disappeared without trace as suddenly as it came, and I was left without answers. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I promise, it was a lot scarier than it sounds, and it dominated a bulk of my year. The feeling of having no control over my health or how I felt ushered in a sense of hopelessness like I’d never felt before. And on top of everything, closure was not in the cards for me. In light of this, I chose to re-evaluate my relationship with a number of my lifestyle choices, the first and foremost being the gym.

This video speaking about the transformative effects of exercise changed the way I viewed exercise.

Don’t get me wrong. I used to love exercise. I used to go to the gym obsessively, constantly looking for an excuse to sweat it out to whatever dance track was dominating the charts at the time. But then, work got crazy, and so did my personal life. My precious, previously untouchable gym time fell by the wayside and as a result, I found myself falling into unhealthier habits. Fast forward a number of years later, to a post-fever me, and I began to research how I could coax myself back to the gym, a place that had once felt like a safe haven for me.

I won’t bore you with my typical mountain of research, but what I will say is this: this video speaking about the transformative effects of exercise changed the way I viewed exercise. I hope it does the same for you!
