By Another entire year has passed, and now we’re on the precipice of the year 2020. Wait, what?! Wasn’t it just 2010 a short while ago? An entire decade has passed by in the blink of an eye! As the years go by, we hope for the world to grow in kindness, inclusivity, and for it to become more accepting, and definitely more tolerant. Sometimes, however, we need to coax people into accepting that which lies beyond the norm by putting ourselves out there and forcing people to take notice. And that’s were this listicle comes into play.
It’s been a big decade for Muslim women. From the ashes of the eye-roll-worthy stereotypes featuring the “oppressed” Muslim woman came to rise our reclamation of our narratives and identities across industries. Over the last 10 years, Muslim women around the globe reached new heights in compelling impactful change in the world around. Whether it’s a veiled model gracing the cover of a major magazine, Muslim women taking their rightful place as decision-makers in office, or Muslim authors that are finally getting their literary work recognized, it has undoubtedly been a massive decade of global recognition for our sisterhood in breaking the mold. The world better sit back and relax, because we’re certainly not done yet! And so, here are some of our favorite milestones from the 10’s that had redefined our world as we know it.
