What is Halal Beauty?

“What is halal beauty” I hear you ask, and why do we need it?

The word “halal” doesn’t only apply to food and drink, but runs through every avenue of a Muslim’s life. Halal means that which is permissible under Islamic law, and when it comes to beauty products, there is no exception.

Muslim women need to know that what they are applying to their skin, or ingesting for the sake of beauty, is free from animal and insect derivatives, as well as being alcohol-free. As Muslims, we are obliged to pray five times a day, so potentially, we may need to make our ablutions (wudu) frequently. Raving fashionistas don’t want to remove their Chanel, Le Vernis nail varnish, MAC Pro Concealer, or L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick, every time we make wudu. We don’t want to choose between performing our prayers, and looking glam; we want both!

All hail halal beauty products and our opportunity to binge-buy like never before! Muslim women can now have quality halal products to rival our trusted mainstream staples. The advantage of being able to sparkle our way through the festive season and beyond, halal style, is knowing that going halal means being free from animal-testing, free from harsh chemicals, and often eco-friendly!

So, without further ado, here to enable a maxed-out look of glitter and shine, are 10 of the most popular halal beauty brands available online:
