This Arab Woman Is the First to Fly World’s Largest Commercial Aircraft

In honor of International Women’s Day earlier this week, Emirate’s Airlines had two women pilot the largest commercial aircraft in the world: the Airbus A380.

One of these women was Nevin Darwish, an Egyptian pilot who has now officially become the first Arab woman to fly the A380. She was the captain of the flight.

Darwish’s co-pilot during the flight was First Officer Alia Al-Muhairi, who is currently the youngest Emirati A380 female pilot.

In honor of International Women’s Day earlier this week, Emirate’s Airlines had two women pilot the largest commercial aircraft in the world: the Airbus A380.

Their flight went from Dubai to Vienna, and back. There was even video footage uploaded of Darwish and her co-pilot commanding the flight on this iconic aircraft.

The First Officer, Al-Muhairi, said that Darwish is “a wonderful role model” and “an inspiration to all young pilots around the world.” I’m not a pilot, but Nevin Darwish is definitely an inspiration for me as well!

I applaud Emirates Airlines for taking this initiative, and hope that this will be a new norm for their company in the near future.
