The (Anti) Black-Ass Roots of America’s Islamophobia

I thought your article was fascinating and brought light to such an important topic that people forget about when they are talking about being Muslim in America. Growing up as a Somali American, people assumed that because I’m Muslim, I have to be Arab and refused to understand my culture and the struggle that my people also went through. The idea of someone being Black and Muslim seemed to confuse my coworkers and friends. i can name multiple times when people would ask about my ethnicity they would say “Oh she’s Muslim”. I think for real progress to made in our country we need to make sure that people understand that Muslims come from all walks of life.
