By If you’ve lost track of the score, it’s one for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and zero for President Donald Trump. The fight isn’t over yet! ACLU had our backs, and now it’s time that we return the favor by giving sadaqa.
In sensitive times like these, when a religion practiced by over one billion people is being targeted, it is a responsibility on us to obey the orders of the Quran by sticking together and fighting against injustice. In Chapter 4 of the Quran, verse 134, Allah states, “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice…surely with hardship comes ease.”
ACLU took the case to court on behalf of two Middle Eastern travelers that were being detained in John F. Kennedy International Airport. In an article titled “ACLU Celebrates: I hope Trump Enjoys Losing,” author Brooke Seipel quotes the non-profit organization’s national political director Faiz Shakir, who said, “I hope Trump enjoys losing. He’s going to lose so much we’re going to get sick and tired of his losing.”
“We are a nation of immigrants and no matter where we come from, the courts will always side with justice and they will always be there to defend us.”
In a nutshell, the ACLU scratched our backs, and now it is time we scratch theirs. In a recorded hadith, the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) was known to have advised his followers to “want for your brother what you would want for yourself.” In order to achieve this goal, we must all unite under one mutual goal and support each other in the process of reaching it.
ACLU executive director Anthony D. Romero informs the public in a video that this is only the beginning and passing unconstitutional laws will not be accepted by the American people. More importantly, he reminds us all that we are a nation of immigrants and no matter where we come from, the courts will always side with justice and they will always be there to defend us.
