5 Self Care Tips for Ramadan & Beyond

During the holy month of Ramadan, everyone is busy trying to re-adjust their hectic schedules, meal prepping, and dividing the hours in each day carefully and meaningfully.  It gets so hectic, and we want to do so much that it’s often easy to forget to take care of ourselves.
During Ramadan–and any other time–it’s important to have a healthy diet, a pure heart, and good intentions, but it’s equally important to prioritize self care. Self care consists of actions that are both physical and emotional, and it’s something that’s essential to our survival; we can’t ignore it.
Healthy, balanced, living is also a part of our deep, so don’t forget to make yourself a priority in these last few days of Ramadan, and beyond.
Here are some simple tips to take care of yourself as we close out this holy month.

Take care of your skin.

During the hot summer months, it’s important not to neglect your skin due to being busy. Since we are eating a lot in Ramadan and aren’t as hydrated, make sure your skin stills gets all its nutrients. It can be as simple as spraying a facial mist in the middle of a hectic day, which is enough for your skin to get some hydration. You can also spend 15 to 20 minutes using a face mask for more extensive hydration; the best option is to use a sleeping mask that moisturizes and hydrates your skin while you’re asleep!

Surround yourself with positive people and friends.

The company you keep is super important, and it effects us in more ways than we can imagine. Good friends have a positive impact on us, and keep us feeling happy and emotionally content. Whether it’s inviting your friends over for iftaar, or explaining the meaning behind the holy month of Ramadan to those aren’t familiar with it, time with good friends is time well spent.

Get enough sleep.

It’s very important to get some shut eye in this busy month. Although it sounds like a simple fact, it’s something that’s often overlooked, since many of us undermine the importance of a good night’s sleep. It keeps you well-rested emotionally and physically by giving both your mind and body some time to relax, and start afresh and anew in the morning. It will also keep your energy levels higher, so that you don’t feel as tired when fasting.

Reflect on yourself.

Jot down some points in a journal, or just spend a few minutes reflecting on how you’ve spent your days in the month of Ramadan, and how you can optimize your time better for the coming days. It’s best to do this in the beginning or very end of the day, when you have some time to yourself. This gives you a chance to set goals, and realize how your days in this precious month are being spent; it also allows you to track progress throughout the month.

Unplug.

In a world where we find it hard to stay away from our phones and laptops for even a little while, it’s necessary to realize the value of life without all of that. Unplugging from social media allows us to better appreciate the important things in life, such as the people around us, and is great for de-stressing as well. During this downtime, you can read the Quran, and find peace and solitude. It also gets rid of the unhealthy feelings of loneliness and dissatisfaction that constantly being online can cause. So go ahead, and disconnect.  You won’t miss anything.  Promise.
I hope these simple tips help you out. Wishing you all very peaceful and happy last days of Ramadan.
