‘Great British Bake Off’ Winner Nadiya Hussain is Baking the Queen’s Birthday Cake!

Last year, 31-year-old British Muslim chef, columnist, and author, Nadiya Hussain, won the sixth series of BBC’s The Great British Bake Off, making her the first ever Muslim to win the competition.

During her acceptance speech, Hussain, who is a hijabi, said, “I’m never gonna put boundaries on myself ever again. I’m never gonna say ‘I can’t do it.’ I’m never gonna say ‘maybe.’  I’m never gonna say, ‘I don’t think I can.’   I can and I will.”

Hussain has now stepped into royal boundaries. She has been selected to bake the Queen’s birthday cake for her upcoming 90th birthday celebration.

She broke the news this week on ITV’s Loose Women.

“How often can you say that you are baking the Queen’s birthday cake in one sentence?” she joked.

“I’m so nervous I can’t even look at the oven right now,” she added.

Hussain revealed that although she had initially considered a traditional fruit cake, she was now thinking to do “something a little bit different” – a “very citrusy” orange drizzle cake with orange curd, orange buttercream, and fondant. (Sounds delish…can we get some too?!)

She will be personally delivering the cake to the Queen on her 90th birthday, next Thursday, at Windsor Castle’s Guildhall.
