By Adolf Hitler on Thursday called for the creation of a national database to register all Jews living in Germany to protect the country against terrorism. Oh wait, Hitler’s dead. So his ludicrous ideas should’ve died with him, right? Apparently not!
According to Donald Trump, it’s time to do some serious #tbt. Trump called for the creation of a national database to register all Muslims living in the United States so as to protect the country against terrorism.
The Republican presidential frontrunner refused to rule out requiring Muslims to carry special identification showing their faith — which the Third Reich required Jews to do with a yellow badge resembling the Star of David.
Not only does he want special IDs, he wants increased surveillance of American Muslims. He even went as far as to say he’d consider faith-based identification requirements. Um, hello — fourth amendment anyone?
Trump told Yahoo News in an interview published Thursday:
We’re going to have to do things that we never did before. Some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now, everybody is feeling that security is going to rule. And certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. And so we’re going to have to do certain things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.
In case you missed that — he alluded that we’re the enemy.
When pressed on whether these measures might include tracking Muslim Americans in a database or noting their religious affiliations on identification cards, Trump would not go into detail — but did not reject the options.
We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.
Zainab Chaudary has decided to take things into her own hands after reading a story about Tayyib M. Rashid, a Muslim Marine who posted a photo of his U.S. Marine Corps ID card with the caption: “Hey @realDonaldTrump, I’m an American Muslim and I already carry a special ID badge. Where’s yours?”
She has started a social media campaign with the hashtag #MuslimID asking Muslims to show the world their work, school and organization IDs.
Chaudary’s goal is to “change the narrative of Muslims as being a monolith, to showing the massive diversity of Muslims living here in the United States — from the rodeo loving Muslim Imams in Texas to the die hard New York Mets fans and so forth.”
The idea is to push back negative rhetoric that the Republican Presidential candidates have been creating that is leading to a dangerous, fear-based climate in America and dehumanizing Americans.
The FBI just published their Annual Hate Crime Statistics Report on Monday that showed that even though hate crimes in America are down, anti-Muslim crimes have risen tremendously.
As Muslims proudly show their IDs on how they make America a better place, we ask you this Donald Trump, where’s the special ID that lets everyone know you’re a bigot? Maybe a trendy scarlet letter B?
