Meet Maha Hilal: She’s Fighting For Your Freedom

The world woke up last Thursday to a new executive director of the National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms (NCPCF) — Maha Hilal. Established in October 2010, NCPCF is a nonprofit organization whose mission is “to educate the public about the erosion of civil and political freedoms in the society, and the abuses of prisoners within the U.S. criminal justice system especially after Sept. 11.”

With the ever-increasing attacks on Muslims and the negative representation of our rights in the media, Hilal as the new leader of NCPCF hopes to advocate for the preservation of Muslim American freedoms and defend those rights according to the U.S. Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Conventions.

Many of us are most definitely wondering the role Hilal will play in national politics to dispel the image many people have of Muslim Americans. We at MuslimGirl.net had the privilege of speaking with her to get you the realest details on her mission:

I am confident that with my combined skills in research, advocacy and activism, I can raise the profile of the NCPCF — and in doing so, empower other women to rise up and resist!
