By The Girls’ Room is a MuslimGirl.net online monthly series of Google Hangouts in which we discuss the topics that we all actually want to talk about with prominent guests from the Muslim community and beyond.
The past month has been especially mournful for the American Muslim community. With the murders of Mustafa Mattan, Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha, and Razan Abu Salha; the assault and beating of a Muslim father in a Kroger; the mosque that went up in flames in an arson attack; the Islamic schools being vandalized; and the increasingly overwhelming sensation of fear within our Muslim community, the state of our identity in our country is facing difficult challenges.
In this month’s episode of The Girl’s Room, we are holding the State of the Muslim Union. This is an opportunity for our community to discuss the recent tragedies. What, truly, is the state of being a Muslim in America today? From discussing the attacks that have hit the Muslim community to the effectiveness of the #MuslimLivesMatter campaign, we hope to identify the work that needs to be done and the strategies that we may use to take it from here.
We will be using the hashtag #SOTMU to have a live conversation on Twitter and take questions for our guests on the air.
